Job summary

VEG ER for Pets seeks a Veterinary nursing Shift Lead to coordinate shifts and ensure top-quality patient care. You’ll guide VEGgies on the floor, manage workflow, and mentor staff to uphold clinical excellence.

You will balance leadership with hands-on care, oversee rounds and breaks, and partner with hospital leadership to optimize coverage while maintaining a supportive, fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Credentialed veterinary technician preferred; enrolled in VEG Credentialing Support Program is acceptable.
• Minimum 1+ year experience as veterinary technician or assistant, with emergency or specialty exposure.
• Ability to navigate clinical workflows and support team dynamics.
• Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills.

Responsibilities

• Maintain patient status visibility and support shift-wide needs.
• Manage daily workflow and pivot during emergencies.
• Ensure clear shift roles and coverage plans.
• Step in on the floor when needed to assist the team.
• Coordinate breaks, resolve conflicts, and model calm under pressure.
• Lead shift transitions, huddles, and end-of-day wrap-ups.
• Communicate clearly and escalate key issues as needed.
• Turn downtime into learning moments and growth opportunities.
• Flag notable events for transparency and improvement.
• Collaborate with hospital leadership on coverage and coaching.
