Qualifications

  • Knowledge of specialized training in the field, in addition to basic high school education.
  • Experience to understand basic principles relevant to duties, usually 1–2 years in a similar role.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain NCIC/TCIC certification.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain TLETS/NLETS certification.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain a TCOLE Basic Telecommunicator certification.
  • Ability to work as a team during stressful situations and major events.

Responsibilities

  • Command the technology: Operate CAD systems, integrated radio, telephony, and GIS to coordinate emergency response.
  • Be the first point of contact: Field calls and assess situations to determine actions.
  • Direct the heroes: Dispatch police, fire, rescue, and other emergency personnel.
  • Stay sharp: Monitor public service radio frequencies and track field personnel for real-time awareness.
  • Keep everything running smoothly: Prepare detailed reports and inspect communications equipment.
