Job summary

The City of Pearland, TX is seeking a full-time Telecommunication Operator to join our dispatch center. This role involves receiving service calls for police, fire, EMS, and other City services, monitoring radio channels, and dispatching units as needed.

Shifts are 12 hours from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. or 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., including weekends and holidays. Benefits include dental, life insurance, TMRS with 2:1 employer match, paid holidays, and ongoing professional development.

Qualifications

• Requires High School graduation or GED.
• Requires one-year telecommunications or closely related experience.
• CPR and Notary Certifications listed as required within one year of hire; professional certifications are valued.

Responsibilities

• Manages all radio traffic on multiple channels; dispatches calls; provides in-progress updates for emergencies; verifies status of warrants, stolen articles, and vehicles.
• Answers in-progress emergency 911 calls while extracting safety and suspect information; makes time-sensitive decisions.
• Takes non-emergency calls and provides information about city services; routes calls for police and City operations.
• Enters and manages TCIC/NCIC records; verifies hits from outside agencies.
• Disseminates official police teletype communications and coordinates with other agencies.
• Coordinates with other agencies on jurisdiction and prisoner transports; handles city callouts.
