Job summary

Columbia County Fire Rescue Communications Center (CCFRCC) is seeking a Communications Officer to receive and transmit routine and emergency calls using radios, phones, and computer dispatch systems, with duties including record keeping and shift flexibility.

Under general supervision, the position handles dispatching with various equipment, logs calls, coordinates with field personnel, and reports to the Duty Chief and Supervisor. Training requirements and certification timelines apply.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• NIMS compliant within 6 months.
• P.O.S.T. certified Communications Officer within 6 months.
• Able to multitask under heavy stress.
• Strong knowledge of Windows-based programs.
• Adequate typing skills.

Responsibilities

• Receives and transmits via radio from mobile units; maintains a log of calls and dispositions.
• Answers and places emergency and non‑emergency calls to the public and field personnel.
• Coordinates emergency calls and dispatch equipment.
• Meets training requirements as set forth by the department.
• Relays necessary information to the Duty Chief, Supervisor, and others as needed.
• Operates electronic data terminals; disseminates information to EOCs, DOCs, and ICs.
• Completes and submits required documents for each incident; performs other duties as assigned.
