Job summary

City of Columbia seeks an Emergency Communications Trainee to answer incoming calls in a fast-paced center, dispatch multiple services and maintain accurate records with precision.

The trainee will work 12-hour shifts including nights, holidays and weekends, remain on call 24/7 during emergencies, and complete six weeks of training plus required certifications such as NCIC and E911 within set timelines.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Typing speed of 30 corrected wpm.
• NCIC certification within four weeks of hire.
• 40-hour E911 Basic Telecommunications Officer Certification within one year.

Responsibilities

• Receive and dispatch emergency and non-emergency calls for law enforcement, fire, EMS.
• Maintain accurate dispatch records and prepare required reports.
• Monitor radio communications and coordinate field units.
• Assist training of new employees and respond to public inquiries.
