Job summary

The City of Minneapolis is seeking a Supervisor in the Emergency Communications Department to oversee 911 Center staff on assigned shifts. Responsibilities include supervision, scheduling, and ensuring service levels for PST II and PST III teams, while maintaining compliance with CJIS and emergency management requirements.

Ideal candidates will have a minimum 3 years in a 911 Center with call processing and dispatching experience, plus CJIS and IC certifications within 6 months of hire.

Qualifications

• Minimum Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Three years of experience in a 911 Center performing call processing and dispatching duties.
• State Certification in the operation of Minnesota CJIS computerized files within 6 months of employment.
• Emergency management IC S100, 200, 700, and 800 within 6 months of employment.
• Supervisory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide shift supervision for the 911 Emergency Communications Center, overseeing PST II & PST III staff.
• Prepare work schedules, approve changes, and manage absences to maintain service levels.
• Assign shifts and monitor breaks to ensure staffing minimums are met.
• Audit attendance and payroll records for accuracy.
• Mentor and train staff, provide feedback and development opportunities.
• Intervene and take over calls to diffuse high-stress situations.
• Deliver public education and participate in community meetings to inform the public.
• Explain policies, procedures, and laws to employees and callers.
• Assist investigations into employee misconduct and support disciplinary recommendations.
