Norfolk State University is seeking Embedded Tutors to provide free, one-to-one writing help in person or online. Tutors partner with a faculty member, report to the Embedded Tutoring Coordinator, and may host writing workshops with faculty partners.
Duties include meeting students one-on-one or in small groups, giving feedback on writing, teaching proper formatting and citation, and helping students become independent writers. Training sessions and required paperwork are part of the role.
Embedded Tutors will partner with a single faculty member (thefaculty partner) and will report to the Embedded TutoringCoordinator. Consultations are designed so that each student canreceive free, one-to-one writing assistance in person or online.Embedded Tutors are employed through the Title III funded EmbeddedTutoring Program as facilitated by the NSU Writing Center and theActivity Director Andrew Burlile.
Wage employees are paid an hourly rate for actual hours worked are limited to working 1500 hours per year and can only work amaximum of 29 hours a week. Work hours must be counted on the basisof the twelve-month period beginning May 1 of each year and April30 of the following year. Wage employees in all agencies (allbranches of government) are limited to working no more than 1500hours during each twelve-month period of May 1-April 30. Should youwork 1500 hours prior to April 30, your services will be terminatedimmediately. You will not be eligible for employment again untilMay 1. It is the responsibility of the employee and supervisor, aswell as the Office of Human Resources, to monitor these hours toensure compliance to policy. Wage employees may not earn leave nordo they have access to the Grievance Procedure process. They arenot covered by the provision of the Virginia Personnel Act and arenot entitled to the benefits afforded employees occupyingclassified positions.
