Job summary

AeroVironment in California is seeking an Embedded Software Engineering Intern for a 12‑week, onsite program. You will work with experienced engineers to design, develop, and test embedded software for unmanned aerial systems and robotics, writing code that runs on microcontrollers and processors used in flight systems.

You'll contribute across the development lifecycle—from prototyping to testing and validation—while adopting industry best practices in embedded software.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
• Basic knowledge of embedded systems and microcontrollers.
• Familiar with C, C++, or Python programming.
• Understanding of memory management, interrupts, or device drivers.

Responsibilities

• Assist in writing and testing embedded software for autopilots, sensors, radios and other onboard components.
• Help implement software in C/C++ for real‑time and bare‑metal systems on microcontrollers.
• Support integration of software with hardware and debugging with lab tools.
• Collaborate with electrical, systems and mechanical engineers to ensure cohesive development.
• Participate in peer reviews, software documentation and configuration management.
• Contribute to lab and field testing of embedded systems for real‑world missions.
• Assist in prototyping and proof‑of‑concept demonstrations.
