Job summary

Embedded Software Engineering Interns at AeroVironment will design, develop, and test embedded software for unmanned aerial and robotic systems. You’ll work with experienced engineers on real projects, writing code for microcontrollers and real-time environments.

During a 12-week onsite program, you’ll gain hands-on experience across the development lifecycle, from prototyping to validation, while learning best practices in embedded software and collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
• Basic knowledge of embedded systems and microcontrollers.
• Familiarity with C, C++, or Python.
• Understanding of memory management, interrupts, or device drivers.
• Exposure to I2C, SPI, UART, or CAN.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
• Effective verbal and written communication.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team.

Responsibilities

• Assist in writing and testing embedded software for autopilots, sensors, radios, and other components.
• Implement C/C++ software for real-time or bare-metal systems on microcontrollers.
• Support integration of software with hardware and debug with lab tools.
• Collaborate with electrical, systems, and mechanical engineers to ensure cohesive development.
• Participate in peer reviews and software documentation.
• Contribute to lab and field testing of embedded systems in real-world scenarios.
• Assist in prototypes and proof-of-concept demonstrations.
