Job summary

AeroVironment in Moorpark, CA is seeking an entry-level Software Engineer I (Embedded) to develop software for unmanned and robotic systems used in defense and commercial applications. You will write code for embedded devices, design, test, and debug system software, and help extend existing code to meet program requirements.

This role offers learning opportunities across full lifecycle development, collaboration with cross-disciplinary teams, and potential field testing.

Qualifications

• BS degree or equivalent education/experience in a relevant field.
• 0–2 years of professional engineering experience.
• Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills.
• Proficiency in Python, C, C++11; knowledge of STL/OpenCL.
• Familiarity with Visual Studio/Eclipse and defect tracking tools.
• Experience with RS-485/RS-232/CAN/I2C/SPI/USB is preferred.
• Ability to travel for testing and work irregular hours as needed.

Responsibilities

• Writes and tests software to support integration of sensors and embedded processors for aircraft and robotic systems.
• Designs and implements software for prototypes using AV-developed tools and manages software configuration.
• Assists in writing system requirements, test plans, and validation testing of software.
• Supports transition of development software to production and certification activities.
• Collaborates with other engineering disciplines and participates in design reviews.
