Job summary

Boston Engineering is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer to develop software for robotics, autonomous systems, medical devices, and defense technologies. The role emphasizes hands-on work from prototype to working product, across architecture, integration, and testing.

You will contribute with C/C++, Python, Linux, and RTOS platforms, collaborating with cross-disciplinary teams and iterating on system-level decisions to deliver real-world solutions.

Qualifications

• BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Robotics, or a related field.
• 1–5 years of professional software or embedded development experience; co-op/internship considered.
• Experience with Git and standard version control workflows.
• Familiarity with build systems, debugging tools, and modern software practices.
• Proven C and C++ fundamentals; experience with Python.
• Understanding of embedded systems and how software interacts with hardware.
• Knowledge of RTOS concepts, scheduling, and concurrency.
• Comfortable with Linux and CLI development environments.

Responsibilities

• Develop embedded software and firmware in C and C++ for new and existing products.
• Work with microcontrollers, RTOS-based systems, and embedded Linux platforms.
• Integrate sensors, actuators, interfaces, and other hardware into embedded systems.
• Build and debug interfaces including I2C, SPI, UART, CAN, Ethernet, GPIO.
• Use Python and other tools for testing, automation, and system integration.
• Bring up and debug software on custom hardware and early prototypes.
• Investigate software/hardware issues using debugging tools and bench equipment.
• Write automated tests and support build/test/integration workflows.
• Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and project planning.
• Collaborate across engineering disciplines and document designs and results.
