Job Description

We are hiring an Embedded Linux Field Engineer for Devices/IoT to expand our presence in industries like Automotive, Medical Devices, Industrial Systems, Robotics, and Telco, as well as Consumer Electronics. We seek candidates who are Linux experts, proficient in OS internals, containerization, system debugging, and embedded software development. This role involves engaging with cutting-edge Linux solutions, including Ubuntu Core, Ubuntu's IoT edition, emphasizing security and resilience for high-end appliances and equipment. Our portfolio includes real-time Linux capabilities and upcoming certifications, aiming for high reliability, security, and developer productivity in small Linux environments.

This role requires a blend of technical skills: deep Linux knowledge, coding and scripting proficiency, experience with low-level Linux boot processes, BIOS, firmware, and embedded development methodologies. Candidates should thrive in a fast-paced, diverse client environment, be result-oriented, and team players committed to customer success. As a field engineer, you will be the face of Canonical, providing thoughtful, knowledgeable support and solutions to our customers.

Responsibilities
  • Engage with customers during presales to gather requirements and explain our technology
  • Design and propose solutions to prospective clients
  • Participate in delivery of embedded Linux projects
  • Communicate market requirements internally and contribute to solution development
  • Act as a customer advocate and trusted advisor
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field
  • Extensive Linux experience (Debian/Ubuntu preferred)
  • Distribution/Packaging experience (deb, rpm, etc.)
  • Embedded Linux experience (Yocto, Buildroot, etc.)
  • Proficiency in Golang, Python, C, C++, or Rust
  • Professional fluency in English and local language (if applicable)
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Results-oriented, multi-tasking ability, dependable
  • Willingness to travel up to 30% for customer engagements and events
  • For Japan/Korea positions, professional-level local language skills
