Job summary

Badger Meter, Inc. is seeking a Firmware Test Engineer I to maintain and enhance firmware testing efforts. You will write tests, automate verification, and contribute to both internal and external customer support through robust validation of firmware features.

You will collaborate with engineers and QA to ensure product reliability and participate in design reviews, while traveling to customer sites for beta testing as needed. A bachelor’s degree in a related field is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
• No prior experience required.
• Proficient in Python and C programming.
• Experience developing, maintaining automated test apps in Python.
• Familiar with embedded systems and firmware development concepts.
• Knowledge of UART, SPI, I2C.
• Familiar with Visual Studio Code or similar IDE.
• Experience with source control systems (Git).
• Familiar with test and measurement equipment such as Oscilloscope, Power Analyzer.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute firmware verification and validation test plans based on design specifications.
• Develop and maintain test procedures, test reports, and engineering documentation.
• Design, build, and maintain automated test frameworks, scripts, and tools to improve firmware test coverage.
• Design, develop, and maintain hardware and software test fixtures for validation and production support.
• Perform manual and automated testing of embedded systems throughout the product development lifecycle.
• Detect, document, reproduce, and track firmware and system-level defects.
• Collaborate with Engineers, Managers, QA, and Operations to meet reliability and performance goals.
• Assist in root cause investigations of product and customer-reported issues.
• Provide status updates to supervisor or project manager.
• Participate in requirements/design/risk reviews to improve testability and quality.
• Travel to customer sites for product beta testing as needed.
• Perform other functions as directed by the Firmware Project Engineer or Engineering Manager.
