Job summary

Badger Meter is seeking an Engineer I, Firmware to support embedded systems firmware development and testing across product families. You will contribute to new product development and sustaining engineering, collaborating with engineering leaders in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment, and you’ll learn from experienced engineers while advancing your skills in C/C++ and hardware interfaces.

Qualifications

  • No previous experience required.
  • BS in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or CS/Software/Firmware Engineering.
  • Basic firmware design knowledge (embedded microcontroller/microprocessor, C/C++).
  • Familiar with revision control systems (Git or SVN).
  • Basic understanding of digital circuit design and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with ECAD tools (Altium, PCAD, Protel).
  • Experience with test instruments (oscilloscopes, power supplies, data acquisition, environmental chambers).
  • (Preferred) experience collaborating with other departments in technical support.
  • (Preferred) experience debugging and prototyping embedded systems.

Responsibilities

  • Design firmware component of a project with oversight.
  • Provide firmware support for product/sustaining engineering.
  • Perform product and design verification tests.
  • Assist in defining production plans/implementations.
  • Write product work instructions/process documents.
  • Initiate and implement engineering change requests.

What You Will Contribute:

The Engineer I, Firmware will support Badger Meter’s continued growth and alignment amongst product families. The Engineer I contributes to aspects of embedded systems regarding firmware development and product performance testing. The Engineer I assists projects involving new product development and maintaining existing products in the production environment while gaining product knowledge. This individual contributor role offers autonomy, creativity, and the opportunity to work side by side with the Engineering leaders. The incumbent must be willing and able to learn, work effectively in a multi-discipline team, and demonstrate effective problem-solving initiative and motivation.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
  • Design firmware component/portion of a project with oversight
  • Provide firmware support for product and sustaining engineering with oversight from more senior engineers
  • Perform product and design verification tests
  • Assist in defining plans/production implementations
  • Write product work instructions/process documents
  • Initiate and implement engineering change requests
  • Participates in multi-discipline project teams, provide input into project schedules, budgets and risks
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • No previous experience required
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or CS/Software/Firmware Engineering.
  • Basic working design knowledge of embedded microcontroller/microprocessor firmware (C, C++, etc.)
  • Familiarly with revision control systems (Git or SVN)
  • Basic understanding of digital circuit design and troubleshooting.
  • Basic familiarity with implementing schematics for digital circuits, with common ECAD tools (Altium, PCAD, or Protel)
  • Experience working with test instruments such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, data acquisition systems, and environmental chambers for troubleshooting PCBs and electronic products.
  • (Preferred) Experience working with other company departments on occasion in technical support of products.
  • (Preferred) Experience debugging and prototyping embedded systems
