The California Lottery is a multi‑billion‑dollar enterprise headquartered in Sacramento that provides supplemental funding to California schools while supporting local communities. Ninety‑five cents of every dollar spent by players goes back to local communities in the form of contributions to public schools and colleges, prizes and retailer compensation.

Job Description and Duties

The California Lottery is looking for a dynamic Email Marketing and Loyalty Program Analyst who is passionate about email marketing and fostering player relationships and retention. Under the direction of the Chief of Engagement & Retention Marketing and reporting directly to the Staff Services Manager II – Marketing Manager Player Loyalty and Email Communications, you will be responsible for the execution and optimization of the Lottery's loyalty programs and email communications. This role will leverage enterprise email software and proprietary loyalty program tools designed to drive customer engagement and deliver program success. The position is critical to ensuring that the Lottery provides an exceptional experience that motivates consumers to play Lottery games, builds an understanding of the Lottery's mission and impact, increases loyalty to the brand, and drives sales to generate supplemental funding for public education.

Working Conditions
  • Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
  • Travel: Infrequent travel as needed.
  • Other: Work during evenings or weekends may be occasionally required.
Desirable Qualifications
  • A bachelor’s degree, preferably with a specialization in marketing, communications, or a related field.
  • Minimum of three years of hands‑on email marketing experience. Understanding of email best practices, CAN‑SPAM laws, content creation, list management and targeting, knowledge of dynamic content, and campaign automation and orchestration.
  • Minimum of three years of loyalty marketing experience on a high‑profile consumer brand. Understanding of loyalty marketing best practices and experience driving customer acquisition/enrollments/subscriptions, engagement, and retention.
  • Proficiency using an advanced enterprise email marketing platform (e.g., Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Adobe Campaign, Oracle/Responsys, or HubSpot). Strong HTML skills preferred.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams), Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva, etc. – a plus.
  • Strong analytical skills. Familiarity and comfort with data, including the ability to use data to analyze and monitor program health as well as understand consumer behavior, set goals and metrics, and aid in the prioritization of initiatives and campaigns.
  • Skilled communicator with experience building presentations and presenting data and promotional plans. Well‑versed in reporting out and presenting to stakeholders on campaign performance and program initiatives.
  • Excellent design, copywriting, and proofreading skills with an ability to be detail‑oriented. Excellent project management skills with the ability to give direction to graphic designers, marketing agencies/vendors, and creatives. Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple campaigns simultaneously.
  • Experience in gaming, entertainment, e‑commerce, fast‑moving consumer goods (FMCG), or consumer packaged goods (CPG) categories preferred.
