Job description

ELL Testing Specialist

Pay Grade: A (Non-Exempt Support Staff Salary System)

Department: Varies

Accountable To: Principal

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Calendar: 195 Days

Summary: Under direct supervision, incumbent(s) conducts the standardized language acquisition assessment for listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills with students. Incumbent(s) provides assistance to teachers in a classroom environment by providing materials and handouts to students, working with students individually or in groups on special projects or assignments.

Essential Functions
  • Conducts the standardized English language proficiency assessment for reading, writing, listening and speaking at assigned schools with students. Reads assessment prompts and records student verbal responses. Pre-scores and records proficiency tests using the scoring rubrics.
  • Maintains a testing log for record keeping and data on the administration and scoring of the assessments. Records testing date on the test booklet and electronic database. Submits pre-score reports and test booklets to certified staff for review and dissemination.
  • Works with students individually or in groups on special projects or assignments including reading and mathematics, language development and memorization of emergency information. Demonstrates skills and techniques in order to aid in student learning.
  • Coordinates testing schedule and materials with the Program Instructional Coach. Prepares room for testing, including setting up tables and chairs, and handing out materials. Performs cleanup after testing.
  • Assists teachers in planning and coordinating lesson plans by sharing ideas and providing feedback about the students with whom they work.
  • Ensures compliance of State and Federal laws for English Learners including file audits, testing, and small groups.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (G.E.D.).
  • Proficiently fluent in English language.
Preferred Qualifications
  • One year of experience working with children.
  • Valid first-aide certification.
