ELL Testing Clerk II

Location: Assessment

Position Duration: 10 months, 8 hours per day

Purpose Statement

The role of ELL Testing Clerk II is to support the instructional program by assisting in the assessment of students' English language acquisition from their native language, administering tests, performing clerical tasks related to program placement, and serving as a resource for other personnel providing assistance to non‑English speaking individuals.

Essential Functions
  • Administers the state language assessment and all other tests related to language proficiency test results to coordinate the assessments of PHLOTE and ELL students.
  • Attends required school, district meetings and AZELLA training to convey or gather information necessary for job functions.
  • Completes documents related to scoring and reporting of language proficiency test results to provide accurate documentation in compliance with current regulations.
  • Coordinates testing of individual students and/or groups of students in English and Spanish for the purpose of using the district language proficiency assessments at all schools within the district (travel to all schools required).
  • Prepares, reviews and maintains current student data files (e.g., creates ELL folder for all ELL home language surveys, etc.) to ensure compliance with district, state and federal regulations.
  • Scores assessments, verifies data and enters data to provide information to other staff to determine appropriate student placement and/or referral.
  • Supports other testing clerks and SEI teachers by providing information, guidance and training on testing protocol and reporting procedures.
  • Completes documents related to student program placement.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

Skills: Translating written documents; operating standard office equipment using pertinent software applications; preparing and maintaining accurate records.

Knowledge: Basic math (fractions, percents, ratios); reading manuals; writing documents in prescribed formats; presenting information to others; understanding complex, multi-step instructions; concepts of grammar and punctuation in both English and a second language (preferred).

Abilities: Scheduling activities, meetings, or events; gathering and collating data; using basic, job‑related equipment. Flexibility working with others, handling diverse data, operating equipment by standardized methods; communication with diverse groups, including those with limited English proficiency; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

Responsibilities
  • Work under direct supervision using standardized routines; lead, guide, and coordinate others as needed.
Work Environment

Physical demands include some lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. The job typically involves 60% sitting, 20% walking, and 20% standing, with exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.
