Job summary

U.S. Customs and Border Protection invites applications for Border Patrol Agent (BPA) positions. The agency offers full-time entry and mid-level career roles with base pay, comprehensive federal benefits, and job stability.

Recruitment and retention incentives may apply, including up to $20,000 and additional allowances for prioritized locations. BPAs are assigned at GL-5, GL-7, GL-9 or GS-11 grade levels with potential promotion to GS-12.

Qualifications

• One year of general work experience demonstrating decision making and composure in stressful situations.
• Bachelor's degree or four-year course completion from an accredited college/university; or a combination of experience and education.
• Combination of experience and education usable for qualification.

Responsibilities

• Detect and question people suspected of immigration and customs violations and inspect documents.
• Prevent and apprehend undocumented noncitizens and smugglers near borders using surveillance techniques.
• Interpret physical evidence of illegal entry and conduct various checks and patrols.
• Patrol borders and waterways using vehicles, horses, vessels, and other assets to fulfill CBP mission.
