Job summary

The Department of Building seeks a qualified professional to review complaint intake related to elevator, escalator, and related equipment safety. You will analyze complaints, monitor multiple data sources, and coordinate with City, State, and Federal agencies to resolve noncompliant conditions.

Responsibilities include data cleansing, trend analysis, prioritizing operational needs, and supporting elevator unit audits. Strong communication and knowledge of DOB processes are essential for success.

Qualifications

• Five years of full-time experience in elevator assembly, installation, repair or design; or as an inspector of elevator construction, maintenance, or safety.
• Three years of experience as described and two years of formal training or education in related elevator fields.
• Professional Engineer or Registered Architect license issued under NYS Education Law.
• Education/experience equivalent to the listed requirements.
• Additional year of relevant experience may be needed for Assignment Level II/III.

Responsibilities

• Review complaint intake to identify, interpret, analyze, and address complaints about non-compliant conditions at properties.
• Monitor data sources (311 referrals, unit databases, DOB Now, BIS, etc.) for accurate complaint assignments.
• Identify trends and patterns in data sets and cross-reference sources to improve resolution efficiency.
• Administratively resolve duplicative complaints and refer to appropriate jurisdictions when needed.
• Assist with cease use and restore to service inspections and review construction documents as required.
