Position Details:

• Position Title: Elementary School Teacher
• Department: Instruction
• Reports To: Principal

Summary: To create a flexible elementary grade program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with pupils; to motivate pupils to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for elementary grade education, in accordance with each pupil's ability; to establish good relationships with parents and with other staff members.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Teaches district approved curriculum
• Instructs pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations of the school district
• Develops lesson plans and instructional materials, providing individualized and small group instruction to meet students' needs
• Communicates regularly with parents through newsletters, notes, phone calls, conferences, etc.
• Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior to create an effective learning atmosphere
• Evaluates pupils' academic and social growth, keeps records, and prepares progress reports
• Identifies pupil needs, makes referrals, and develops strategies for individual education plans
• Provides education-related support outside instructional hours
• Coordinates work of paraprofessionals, parents, and volunteers in the classroom and on field trips
• Creates a stimulating learning environment with displays and student work exhibits
• Other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervises classroom and students, including volunteers.

Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor of Arts degree
• Certification: Valid South Carolina Elementary Teaching Certificate

Skills and Abilities: Ability to read, interpret, and communicate effectively in written and oral form; work with mathematical concepts; solve practical problems; establish effective relationships with students, staff, and parents; and perform duties in accordance with district policies.

Physical Demands & Work Environment: Frequent standing, talking, hearing; occasional walking, sitting, lifting up to 25 lbs, pushing/lifting up to 50 lbs; moderate to loud noise level; indoor and outdoor duties with accommodations available for disabilities.
