Position Title: Elementary School Teacher

Summary

To create a flexible elementary grade program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with pupils; to motivate pupils to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for elementary grade education, in accordance with each pupil's ability; to establish good relationships with parents and with other staff members.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Teaches district approved curriculum
  • Instructs pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations of the school district
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials; provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil
  • Translates lesson plans into developmentally appropriate learning experiences
  • Communicates regularly with parents outside normal classroom hours via newsletters, notes, phone calls, conferences, etc.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere
  • Evaluates pupils' academic and social growth; keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports
  • Identifies pupil needs, makes appropriate referrals, and develops strategies for individual education plans
  • Is available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside instructional hours
  • Plans and coordinates the work of paraprofessionals, parents, and volunteers in the classroom and on field trips
  • Creates an environment conducive to learning through displays, interest centers, and exhibits of students' work
  • Other duties as assigned

Supervises classroom, students, and volunteers.

Qualification Requirements

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor of Arts degree.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid South Carolina Elementary Teaching Certificate.

Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Effective presentation skills.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions in practical situations.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions furnished in various formats.

Other Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of current research and theory in instruction; ability to plan and implement lessons based on objectives and student needs; establish effective relationships; strong communication skills; awareness of district policies.

Physical Demands: Frequently standing, talking, hearing; occasionally walking, sitting; may lift weights up to 25 lbs and occasionally push or lift up to 50 lbs. Must meet safety and vision requirements.

Work Environment: Moderate to loud noise levels; indoor and outdoor duties; reasonable accommodations available.
