Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; must have passed or exempted GACE Basic Skills and GACE Special Education General Curriculum Content Test
• Valid Georgia Teaching Certificate required
• Experience: None
• Ability to lift a student up to 40 pounds without assistance and perform 2-person lifts for heavier students
• Written and oral communication; knowledge of disability areas and special education practices; specialized instructional strategies that connect curriculum to the learner
• The Board of Education and the Superintendent may accept alternatives to some requirements.

Responsibilities

• Maintains prompt and regular attendance.
• Completes follow-up procedures for students referred for special education service.
• Assists with eligibility process to completion of IEP/ILP.
• Develops, implements, monitors, and reviews Individual Education Program (IEP) and Individual Learning Plan (ILP).
• Works with parents/guardians in all aspects of the student's educational program.
• Maintains documentation within designated timelines.
• Collaborates with general education teachers to maximize student achievement per program guidelines.
• Maintains lesson plans per policies/directives.
• Delivers instruction according to IEPs/ILPs.
• Implements data-driven behavior management strategies (FBAs, BIPs).
• Collects data on student progress and reports to parents/guardians.
• Ensures due process safeguards for students and families.
• Utilizes assistive technology effectively.
• Adheres to district policies and federal/state rules.
• Serves as a resource to general education teachers.
• Pursues professional learning.
• Meets the needs of students with severe disabilities with lifting/positioning as appropriate.
• Performs other duties as assigned by administrator.
