Job summary

School City of Hammond is seeking a qualified special education teacher to develop curriculum aligned with developmental goals and to post syllabi, projects, lessons, and grades to the district server.

You will maintain a positive learning environment, collaborate with families and staff, participate in MDT discussions for eligibility decisions, and pursue ongoing professional development.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
• Must hold valid Indiana State Teacher's License or be eligible for a license for corresponding age/grade level.
• Certification in Mild Intervention and/or Intense disability area (MI, MO, ED, SLD).
• Knowledge of IIEP system.
• Highly developed oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to build relationships effectively and professionally with families and students.
• Experience developing and implementing curriculum.
• Knowledge of Special Education laws, policies and procedures, Article 7 and IDEA.

Responsibilities

• Develop curriculum to meet developmental goals and instructional activities.
• Post syllabus, projects/lessons, and grades to the server accessible to students, parents, and the community.
• Maintain a classroom environment conducive to positive learning and compliant with codes of conduct.
• Use rubric-based authentic assessment methods to evaluate student progress and adapt individual programs.
• Communicate with families, co-workers, supervisors, and other school staff about student progress and behavior.
• Participate in Multi-Disciplinary Team discussions to determine eligibility for special education services.
• Attend conferences and workshops for professional development.
• Collaborate with staff to improve instructional programs and school operations.
• Provide a safe, thriving, and respectful classroom environment.
