Job summary

NORTHWEST INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT in Fort Worth, TX seeks an Elementary Special Education Aide to support students with significant or low-incidence disabilities. Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Paraprofessional Aide certification from Texas required.
• Ability to work with children with disabilities.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
• Ability to communicate effectively.
• Knowledge of general office equipment.
• Ability to physically manage students with motor/behavioral difficulties.
• Crisis Prevention Intervention or Safety Care certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to policies and procedures for special education aides.
• Participate in training related to special education students.
• Attend planned in-services and professional growth activities.
• Assist in carrying out instructional programs for each student.
• Maintain student records and audit folders.
• Prepare, use and maintain instructional materials and equipment.
• Assist with teacher-planned activities, exercises and drills.
• Assist with self-care activities for students (feeding, dressing, toileting, hygiene).
• Supervise students inside and outside the classroom (lunch, recess, field trips, bus).
• Assist with therapy programs requiring lifting, positioning and transferring to wheelchairs and assistive devices.
• Assist with behavior interventions.
• Attend required professional meetings.
• Provide orientation to substitute teachers.
• Maintain confidentiality; use district safety techniques.
