Job summary

Northwest ISD invites applications for an Elementary Special Education Aide - ECSE at Peterson Elementary in Fort Worth. The aide supports the special education teacher, assists with instructional activities, and helps students with self-care and behavior strategies under supervision.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, Texas Paraprofessional Aide certification, ability to manage safety procedures, and a willingness to work with students with disabilities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Paraprofessional Aide certification from the State of Texas.
• Ability to work with children with disabilities.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
• Ability to communicate effectively.
• Knowledge of general office equipment.
• Ability to physically manage students with motor/behavioral difficulties.
• Certification in Crisis Prevention Intervention and/or Safety Care.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to federal, state and local policies and procedures related to special education aides.
• Participate in training related to special education students.
• Participate in planned in-services and professional growth activities.
• Assist in carrying out the instructional program for each student.
• Assist in maintaining student records and audit folders.
• Assist in preparation, use and maintenance of instructional materials and equipment.
• Assist with teacher-planned activities, exercises and drills.
• Assist with helping students in self-care activities such as feeding, dressing, toileting and personal hygiene.
• Assist with student supervision inside and outside the classroom; lunch, recess, outdoor activities, transitions, field trips, and loading and unloading the bus.
• Assist in implementing the therapy programs that may require lifting, positioning and transferring to and from wheelchairs, standers, walkers, chairs and the floor.
• Assist in carrying out behavior interventions.
• Attend professional meetings as required.
• Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers (Guest Educators).
• Able to maintain confidentiality
• Use appropriate district approved physical safety techniques including restraint
• Dress and shoes appropriate to job responsibilities
• Other duties as assigned
