Job summary

Harford County Public Schools is seeking a Satellite Kitchen Assistant for a 6-hour shift at Churchville Elementary School. The role supports daily food service operations, inventories, meal promotions, and cash handling under the supervision of the Food and Nutrition Services team.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED, the ability to follow written and verbal instructions, and adequate physical strength to lift up to 40 pounds. Training and driver’s license requirements may apply.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Satisfactory completion of training required for kitchen assistant position.
• Able to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Meets the health department’s personal hygiene standards.
• Strong written, oral and interpersonal skills.
• Physically able to perform the essential functions of the position, including the ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
• Individuals appointed to this position may be required to hold and maintain a valid driver’s license to carry out the essential functions of the position.

Responsibilities

• Receive and inspect incoming food and equipment for quality, quantity, temperatures, and condition.
• Inform the manager of progress, problems, or needs.
• Place selected food orders; inform the manager of food and supply needs.
• Assist in training and directing other Food and Nutrition Services workers at the satellite kitchen.
• Maintain point-of-sale computer accountability.
• Follow procedures as set by health department and manager.
• Ensure sanitation and Health Department procedures are followed.
• Maintain pleasant relations with students, faculty, coworkers, and parents.
• Complete daily and annual inventories of food, equipment, supplies and cleaning materials.
• Assist in planning and participating in meal promotions.
• Ensure food quality, portion control, and menu compliance.
• Handle daily participation reports, cash reconciliation and deposits.
• Attend training classes and workshops as required.
• Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
