Job Description

The Elementary Reading Interventionist (K-5) will collaborate with a school based team to identify students needing diagnosis and/or intervention through screening and/or diagnostic data, and plan a program of intervention from data gathered. The Elementary Reading Interventionist will implement programs of intervention, progress monitor throughout to ensure progress being made, evaluate and interpret student progress in intervention to the classroom teacher and the parents.

Responsibilities
  • Serves students who have been identified as being most at-risk of not making adequate progress
  • Uses either a push-in or a pull-out model to assist students with supplementary (Tier II) instruction beyond the classroom instruction
  • Holds small group lessons with texts at the students’ instructional level
  • Provides practice in writing and responding to text
  • Provides systematic support in developing strand 1 and 2 skills in phonemic awareness, the application and understanding of phonics, the development of fluency, a strong vocabulary and the ability to comprehend both fiction and non-fiction text.
  • Pre-teaches or re-teaches concepts, vocabulary words, strategies, etc. that are introduced in the classroom via core, Tier I instruction to ensure student understanding
  • Monitors and evaluates the progress of all students receiving intervention and adjusts small group learning to reflect the data.
  • Plans and develops small group lessons to ensure students’ goals are met
  • Is available for parent meetings during district conference times as well as any time a parent requests an appointment
  • Attends Open House and parent meetings as required by law
  • Communicates regularly with classroom teachers regarding classroom instruction
  • Meets with the building principals to share data and concerns about students
  • Analyzes student data with the classroom teacher to see where students needs and strengths lie, and then implements appropriate and meaningful instruction including, but not limited to:
    • Additional skills/content based groups
    • Phonemic awareness and phonics
    • Fluency practice/instruction
    • Vocabulary practice/instruction
    • Comprehension practice/instruction
  • Attends MTSS meetings
  • Attends conferences and shares information with colleagues
  • Pilots/implements new programs and make recommendations to district
  • Attends building staff meetings and curriculum meetings
Terms

Teacher

Work Year: 162 school days (September to early June) in accordance with the Randolph Education Association (REA) collective bargaining agreement.

Work Day: 9:00 - 2:30pm

Salary placement will be consistent with REA salary schedule.

Job Requirements
  • Valid Massachusetts licensure as an Elementary 1-6 classroom teacher
    Certified as Reading specialist preferred but not required
    Expertise in Science of Reading preferred
    Demonstrated experience teaching students in a diverse, multicultural academic setting
  • At least 2 year(s) of relevant experience preferred.
  • Bachelor degree preferred.
  • Citizenship, residency or work visa required
