Position Type: Full-time

Salary: $49,564 to $99,440 Per Year

Job Summary

The Reading Specialist will work with teachers and school administrators at Southampton Road Elementary School to identify students who require academic support and intervention in literacy. The role involves providing academically rigorous, culturally responsive instruction that aligns with curriculum standards, using student performance data to guide instruction. Collaboration during department meetings, professional learning communities, and professional development time will support teachers and administrators in identifying, supporting, and reporting on student progress. Instruction will be differentiated to meet diverse student needs.

Responsibilities
  • Interpret assessment data to drive instruction and make data‑based decisions to address student weaknesses.
  • Utilize instruction management systems to increase student learning and maximize time on task.
  • Plan and teach lessons for classes and small groups of at‑risk students using state standards, district curriculum, and assessments.
  • Develop lessons and activities supportive of remote learning and student needs.
  • Collaborate with the principal, classroom teachers, coaches, and other staff to provide coordinated instruction that raises student learning and achievement.
  • Utilize the MTSS model and tiered instruction.
  • Monitor and maintain accurate records of student achievement, articulating progress and success.
  • Evaluate student performance and provide parents/guardians with goals and progress reports.
  • Deliver explicit, scientifically based instruction to students.
  • Create a classroom climate conducive to learning.
  • Promote and maintain positive relationships with the school community.
  • Participate in district professional development.
  • Maintain professional work habits.
  • Perform other job‑related duties as assigned by the principal or Administrator of Student Interventions.
Reports To

Building Principal and Administrator of Student Interventions

Qualifications
  • Reading Specialist Licensure in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts; PreK‑2 or 1‑6 license preferred.
  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience at grade level and content area; training in Orton‑Gillingham or other structured, multisensory approaches preferred.
  • Understanding of data analysis, differentiated instruction, and literacy interventions.
  • Demonstrated student growth on assessments.
Additional Requirements

Work is generally conducted within the school building. The position involves sitting, walking within the classroom, and light lifting up to 10 pounds; occasional lifting up to 25 pounds. Frequent use of hands to operate keyboards, telephones, and other office equipment.
