Job summary

Waterbury Public Schools is seeking an Elementary Literacy Facilitator to work with instructional staff to elevate reading and writing outcomes for diverse learners, in both in-person and distance learning settings.

The role requires CT certification (013) with a bachelor's degree and five years of teaching experience, plus Google Educator Level 1 and 2 certification. This position reports to the Principal and Content Supervisor within the Teaching & Learning department.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• State of Connecticut Certification (013) required; 102/097 preferred.
• Five (5) years of teaching experience with a record of improving student achievement.
• Google Certified Educator Level 1 and Level 2 required or to be obtained.

Responsibilities

• Assist classroom teachers and instructional staff in developing strategies, skills, tools, and capacity to teach reading and writing.
• Provide guidance, leadership, and expertise to improve student achievement through high-quality instruction and professional learning.
• Develop and implement curriculum and lesson plans, using technology to facilitate in-person and distance learning.
• Support staff in implementing site reading/literacy plans and programs, including data collection and analysis to guide instruction.
• Provide instructional coaching in person and virtually to teachers working with Common Core State Standards and district curriculum.
• Collaborate with administrators and teachers to focus on best practices and data-driven instruction.

ELEMENTARY LITERACY FACILITATOR

JOB CLASSIFICATION TITLE: Elementary Literacy Facilitator

DEPARTMENT: Teaching & Learning

BARGAINING UNIT CLASSIFICATION: WTA Position

REPORTS TO: Receives administrative direction from the Principal and the Content Supervisor or other administrative official of a higher grade

COMPENSATION: Per WTA Contract

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, CERTIFICATIONS AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

013 State of Connecticut Certification Required; 102/097 Certification Preferred; Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college; Five (5) years' experience teaching, with a record of successfully impacting student achievement and working successfully with students who have the greatest needs. All Literacy Facilitators must become a Google Certified Educator Level 1 and a Google Certified Educator Level 2.

SUMMARY OF CLASSIFICATION:

This class is accountable for assisting classroom teachers and other instructional employees develop strategies, skills, tools, techniques, and capacity to effectively teach reading and writing to all assigned students. The Literacy Facilitator will provide guidance, leadership and expertise in the delivery of high quality, research-based instruction and professional learning to improve student achievement. This class also develops and implements curriculum and lesson plans, uses technology integration to facilitate learning, in person and distance learning, and demonstrates understanding the varying learning styles and the needs of a diverse student population.

• The Literacy Facilitator will support all staff in the implementation and enhancement of the site reading/literacy plans and programs.
• The Literacy Facilitator will work directly with teachers in a school and/or virtual school setting providing support in using varying technologies that enhance teaching and learning, classroom-based and virtual demonstrations, collaborative and one on one support, and facilitating teacher inquiry and related professional development.
• The Literacy Facilitator will focus on enhancing teachers' ability to provide in person and distance learning instruction that builds students' sense of engagement in the ownership of learning.
• The Literacy Facilitator will also work with administrators and teachers to collect and analyze data, interpret, and use it to guide instructional decisions.
• The Literacy Facilitator will provide instructional support and collaborative coaching in person and virtually to teachers as they work to implement the Common Core State Standards and District curriculum.
• The Literacy Facilitator will work with teachers to support best instructional and distance learning best practices using data, analysis of school-wide trends in instruction and to make recommendations.

• As an advisor and collaborator to teachers, the Literacy Facilitator is responsible for providing support in the designing of literacy units and lessons, providing content knowledge in literacy, analyzing data to modify curriculum and forms of assessment and sharing of best practices.
• The Literacy Facilitator's ultimate job is to work with instructional teams to create effective literacy learning experiences for students that are virtual and in person.
• A Literacy Facilitator is a learner who models continuous improvement, lifelong learning, technological skill and application for teaching and learning, and goes above and beyond to ensure student success.
• All Literacy Facilitators work collaboratively as a team with members of the Academic Office and the Chief Academic Officer.
• Literacy Facilitators will promote reflection, provide guidance and structure where needed, and focus on strengths, collaboration and common issues of concern.
• They are responsible for ensuring high-quality instruction in building and virtual classrooms through modeling, co-planning, co-teaching and providing feedback to teachers.
• The instructional coach will demonstrate and model a passion for urban education reform and leadership.
