Job summary

Amtec Staffing is seeking an Electronics Engineer in the San Diego area to design, build, and improve electronic hardware for our products. You will work closely with the Principal Electrical Engineer and collaborate with R&D, Production, and Quality to move designs from concept through testing and production.

You will design circuits and schematics, contribute to PCB/PCBA, develop prototypes, troubleshoot with lab equipment, and document decisions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical/electronics engineering is required.
• 3–5 years of hands-on hardware design experience.
• Experience creating schematics and PCB layout/PCBA with prototypes through testing and revision.
• Strong knowledge of embedded microcontrollers and surrounding circuitry; diagnostics with lab equipment.
• Strong fundamentals in analog/mixed-signal design and debugging.
• Ability to work across disciplines (R&D, Production, Quality) in a small team.
• Familiarity with board repair, product development from design to manufacturing.

We are looking for a hands-on Electronics Engineer to help design, build, and improve electronic hardware for our products. You will work closely with our Principal Electrical Engineer and collaborate with R&D, Production, and Quality. This is an opportunity to

contribute to real designs now and grow into broader project ownership as you learn our products.

Responsibilities

• Design electronic circuits and create schematics for embedded hardware, including microcontroller interfaces, analog signals, analog-to-digital conversion, and communication interfaces.
• Contribute directly to PCB layout and PCBA design, including component selection, design reviews, prototype builds, and board revisions.
• Develop and test prototypes; use measurements, simulations, and practical troubleshooting to diagnose and resolve board‑level and system issues.
• Work with firmware, mechanical, manufacturing, and quality colleagues to move designs from concept through testing and production.
• Document designs, test findings, changes, and technical decisions clearly.
• Support production troubleshooting and product improvements.
• Learn our thermal‑measurement products and, with experience in the role, take increasing ownership of assigned design work and projects.
• This is a hands‑on hardware role with no direct reports.
• Firmware development and formal people management are not primary responsibilities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, electronics engineering, or a closely related field.
• Approximately 3-5 years of relevant, hands‑on electronic hardware design experience.
• We will consider candidates based on demonstrated skills and ownership, not a rigid year count.
• Experience creating schematics and working directly on PCB layout or PCBA design, with examples of boards you helped take through prototype, testing, and revision.
• Working knowledge of embedded microcontrollers and surrounding circuitry, plus analog or mixed‑signal design fundamentals.Ability to troubleshoot circuits and assembled boards using appropriate lab equipment and a methodical approach.
• Comfort working across different parts of a product in a small, collaborative engineering team.
• Exposure to product development from early design through manufacturing, integration testing, or board repair.
• Enthusiasm and curiosity about engineering in general and electrical/ electronic engineering specifically.
• Experience with Altium Designer or a comparable schematic and PCB layout tool preferred.
• Experience with thermal measurement, thermocouples, sensor interfaces, or analog‑to‑digital conversion preferred.
• Exposure to FPGA logic or Verilog is welcome but is not required.
