Job summary

Flex--n--gate seeks an Electronics Cost Estimating Engineer to translate customer requirements into cost-conscious electronics solutions and robust estimates. You will review SOWs, specs, and technical data, and work with engineers to define designs that meet customer needs while developing detailed eBOMs and cost estimates.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a closely related engineering field is required.
• 3-5 years of relevant electrical/electronics design engineering experience preferred.
• Strong understanding of electronic components, PCB/PCBA cost drivers, and eBOMs is expected.

Responsibilities

• Review RFQ packages, SOWs, specifications, drawings, and other documents to identify electronics requirements affecting design and cost.
• Collaborate with Electrical/Electronics and Systems Engineers to ensure designs address customer requirements.
• Identify missing or conflicting requirements and help create questions or assumptions for the estimate.
• Support RFQ meetings and technical reviews by summarizing key electronics requirements, assumptions, and cost impacts.
• Develop or review preliminary electronic architectures, schematics, and eBOMs for quotation and study purposes.
• Create costed eBOMs using supplier quotations, internal cost data, and reasonable volume assumptions.
• Compare design options to identify major cost drivers across components, PCB construction, assembly, and testing.
• Maintain clear assumptions and pricing sources to enable updates as requirements change.
• Prepare internal electronics cost-estimate summaries and communicate risks and opportunities to the project team.
• Apply a cost-conscious design mindset when evaluating component selections and PCB construction.
