Qualifications

AURA TECHNOLOGIES, LLC (AURA) is an advanced technology, research and development (R&D) company creating game-changing innovations for the US Department of Defense in cutting-edge technology.

AURA has an immediate opening for a full-time, Technician II position. The successful candidate will work side-by-side with our engineering staff in our lab in RTP, North Carolina.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Technician II will have a background in electronics and test techniques. Knowledge of certification testing techniques (UL, ANSI, MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461) is highly desirable. This position supports the electrical and mechanical engineering teams in developing and testing products.

The Technician II will operate sophisticated machines with complex process variables, monitor and adjust them to achieve desired outcomes. You will collaborate closely with AURA Engineers on designing, developing, and manufacturing the Technical Data Package (TDP) and part requirements for fabrication by in-house and industry AM machining centers for US DOD Customers. Meeting prescribed timelines is essential.

You will assist in developing state-of-the-art electronics, including some circuit board assembly, soldering, and testing with lab equipment under the guidance of EE design engineers.

Tasks include:

  • Assembling, installing, repairing, troubleshooting, and maintaining electronic components and systems, including SMT, through-hole, rework, and deadbug techniques.
  • Performing electrical measurements with multimeters, oscilloscopes, and spectrum analyzers (a plus).
  • Sourcing or fabricating replacement parts for electronic systems.
  • Carrying out scheduled preventative maintenance and servicing equipment.
  • Interpreting drawings, manuals, and instructions.
  • Maintaining a safe, clean, and organized workspace.
  • Continuously learning new products, skills, and techniques.
  • Completing all required documentation.
  • Operating metal and plastics AM machines, performing setup, powder changeovers, maintenance, and monitoring build processes.
  • Performing other duties as needed.

WORK EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

  • Associate degree in an engineering discipline is highly desired; certification as a machinist or journeyman machinist is a plus.
  • 3-5 years of electronic and test experience preferred.
  • AM and/or subtractive manufacturing experience is desirable.
  • 2-3 years in circuit board assembly and testing.
  • 1-2 years in engineering lab inventory management.

Skills:

  • WASP Inventory control software or similar.
  • Ability to rework PCBs and solder small SMD components (0402 size).
  • Manage R&D workshop tools and equipment.
  • Maintain lab equipment and calibration records.
  • Request quotes and order parts/supplies.
  • Familiarity with certification procedures (UL, ETL, FCC, FDA, ISO).
  • Safety-first mentality.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong communication of project insights.

Highly Desirable Skills:

  • Altium Designer, CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Fusion 360, OnShape, Creo).
  • Proficiency with testing devices (DMM, power supply, oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer, meters, data acquisition).
  • Knowledge of military/DOD project protocols.
  • Understanding of EAR and ITAR regulations.
  • Experience with electronics testing to certification standards.
  • Experience in aerospace or defense AM environments.
  • Familiarity with SharePoint and Microsoft tools.

Additional Requirements:

  • No sponsorship required now or in the future.
  • Must obtain and maintain US Government Secret-level security clearance.
