Job summary

Valmont is seeking a trainee to work with and assist full-time equipment maintenance staff in preventive maintenance and repairs of mechanical and electrical systems at our Nebraska facility. The role covers troubleshooting, disassembly, inspection, and reassembly of equipment and components, with hands-on learning across clutches, drive trains, and distribution equipment per NEC standards.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED or equivalent.
• Must be enrolled in Electrical or Electromechanical Technology or an Associate's degree program.
• Able to climb and work at heights up to 80 feet.
• Basic understanding of electrical, electronic, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical schematics.
• Basic understanding of rigging principles and methods.
• Ability to interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and NEC for AC/DC systems.
• Read hydraulic and pneumatic valves and prints.
• Proficiency with email.

Responsibilities

• Assist and learn troubleshooting of electrical, electronic, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Learn tier 1 skills like power-downs, proximity switches, hydraulic components, and PLC installations.
• Ensure installations meet NEC, OSHA, and safety standards.
• Perform basic electrical tasks including lighting and small fixture repairs.
• Fabricate fixtures including welding and cutting.
• Record labor and materials for each repair and maintain tools safely.
• Operate lifting equipment and communicate safety concerns to supervisor.
