Job summary

Saft in Maryland is seeking a Chemical Process Development Engineer to support electrode fabrication for lithium‑ion cells. You will create, improve and maintain scalable processes with hands‑on experience in slurry mixing, rheology, and coating operations.

The ideal candidate has a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering with 3–5 years’ related experience, Six Sigma, lean manufacturing, CAD, floor‑support duties, and strong documentation skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering.
• 3–5 years of related work experience.
• Background in Six Sigma methodologies (root cause analysis).
• Clear and effective communication.
• Strong organizational skills.
• CAD experience (not exclusively design).
• Floor support with equipment troubleshooting and upgrades.
• Lean manufacturing experience (mechanical side).
• Self‑starting, goal‑oriented and project driven.
• Experience with slurry mixing, rheology, and characterization of mix properties.
• Continued process improvement (yield/revenue).
• Strong understanding of equipment functions and machine controls.
• PPE safety and use of inspection/measurement equipment.
• Reading mechanical & electrical drawings and configuration management.
• Continuous improvement and quality assurance experience.
• Technical writing (work instructions).
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

• Meet customer delivery schedules with Production team.
• Scale up formulations from pilot to production levels.
• Optimize unit operations using DOE and similar methods.
• Install and modify production scale chemical, mixing, and coating equipment with pilot and lab processes.
• Collaborate with R&D for formulation development and materials characterization.
• Work with new suppliers/manufacturers to introduce new techniques/equipment.
• Track and complete development and manufacturing tasks for electrode production for international customers.
• Observe in‑process quality and impact on downstream operations.
• Incorporate feedback from assembly technicians.
• Support project activities for Aerospace, Defense and Racing customers.
• Coordinate with Production and Program Managers for fast‑paced needs.
• Serve as liaison with Saft sites worldwide as SME on electrode development.
• Utilize skills in scrap reduction, problem solving and continuous improvement.
• Prepare work instructions with operators/technicians for development products.
