Summary

The Electrician monitors and maintains electrical, electronic, and control systems and machinery and, as an engine crew member, operates, maintains, and repairs vessel machinery and systems. Employees may be required to work non-regular workdays and shifts, as well as work and travel out of area.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Performs duties and responsibilities, as outlined in the hopper Safety Management System, including all procedures listed for the position in SMS 6.3-1 Positions and procedures cross reference.

  • Works with hand tools, machine tools, electrical equipment and electronic measurement equipment for fault-finding, diagnostics, maintenance and repairs.
  • Monitors the operation of electronic and control systems and machinery: reads and understands electrical and control diagrams, performs diagnostics, troubleshoots issues, performs maintenance and repairs.
  • Housekeeping: keeps work areas clean and orderly, cleans electrical equipment, participates in vessel upkeep, meggers the insulation and performs routine inspections.
  • Connects and disconnects electrical equipment and performs LOTO.
  • Maintains the inventory of electrical spares.
  • Carries out engineering watch routines: understands and communicates watch-keeping matters, monitors and controls the engine room watch.
  • Operates propulsion plant, dredge equipment, auxiliary machinery and vessel systems.
  • Assists in performing fueling, lubrication and ballast operations: operates pumping systems and associated control systems, complies with pollution prevention requirements, and applies precautions to prevent pollution of the marine environment.
  • Transports materials, supplies and tools to and from the deck, work areas, and storage areas.
  • Complies with Manson's Code of Ethics and Standards of Business Conduct. Maintains a high standard of ethical behavior, encourages ethical behavior in others, supports ethical decisions and actively seeks appropriate resolution to potential ethical conflicts.
  • Maintains a safe working environment. Responsible for practicing safe work standards and promoting an Incident and Injury Free (IIF)work environment. Participates in crew safety meetings and contributes to the safety of personnel and ship.
Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The qualifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or abilities desired in candidates.

  • Must possess a working knowledge of electrical and electronic equipment maintenance that meets the standards of STCW Code, Section A-III/7 or A-III/6
  • Certificates required by STCW Section A-III/7 or Section A-III/6, as well as SMS 6.2 Vessel manning and SMS 6.2-1 Crew credentials checklist
  • Must have the ability to give and receive, understand, respond and follow verbal and written communications and instructions.
  • Must be able to communicate, take direction well, and work cooperatively with other colleagues
  • One year marine experience is preferred

Employee must be able to met the following physical requirements for this position such as: Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions and on marine vessels in water. Able to safely execute duties in and around heavy equipment/large machinery in marine dredging and marine construction job sites. Able to wear the personal protective equipment (PPE) required of various construction work environments (hard hats, personal floatation devices, safety glasses, respirators, etc.)
