Job summary

Manson Construction Co. seeks a steward to prepare meals and manage galley operations aboard a hopper dredge ship operating in the United States. The role requires planning meals, ordering supplies, and maintaining sanitary galley spaces while supporting crew morale and safety.

The ideal candidate has 3–5 years of food preparation experience, a high school diploma or GED, and a Food Handlers certificate. Some shifts may require non-regular hours and travel; work is performed on the crewed vessel

Responsibilities

  • Prepares all meals and snacks onboard the hopper dredge ship.
  • Determines menus, understands importance of food safety and healthy food preparation and serving.
  • Orders foods supplies and moves food supplies from deck to storage areas.
  • Recognizes the importance of healthy food preparation and serving to morale of the crew.
  • Cleans and organizes the galley, food stores and freezer.
  • Performs general housekeeping, keeps the crew mess deck neat, orderly and sanitary.
  • Participates in crew safety meetings and contributes to safety of personnel and ship.
  • Ensures compliance with Manson's Code of Ethics and Standards of Business Conduct.
  • Maintains a safe working environment and promotes an Incident and Injury Free work environment.
  • If needed, coordinates with recruitment to address accommodations.

Job description

Summary

The steward prepares meals, cleans, and organizes the galley and food stores. They plan meals and order food supplies. Employees may be required to work non-regular workdays and shifts, as well as work and travel out of the area.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Performs duties and responsibilities, as outlined in the hopper Safety Management System, including all procedures listed for the position in SMS 6.3-1 Positions and procedures cross reference.

  • Must be familiar with the Safety Management System (SMS) and follow procedures.
  • Prepares all meals and snacks onboard the hopper dredge ship.
  • Determine menus, understands importance of food safety and healthy food preparation and serving
  • Orders foods supplies and moves food supplies from deck to storage areas.
  • Recognizes the importance of healthy food preparation and serving to the overall morale of the crew.
  • Cleans and organizes the galley, food stores and freezer.
  • Performs general housekeeping. Keeps the crew mess deck in a neat, orderly and sanitary condition.
  • Participates in crew safety meetings and contributes to the safety of personnel and ship.
  • Ensures compliance with Manson's Code of Ethics and Standards of Business Conduct.
  • Maintains a safe working environment. Responsible for practicing safe work standards and promoting an Incident and Injury Free (IIF) work environment as a condition of employment.
Qualifications
  • 3-5 years of food preparation and cooking experience required, preferably on a marine vessel.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Food Handlers certificate required

Employee must be able to met the following physical requirements for this position such as: Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions and on marine vessels in water. Able to safely execute duties in and around heavy equipment/large machinery in marine dredging and marine construction job sites. Able to wear the personal protective equipment (PPE) required of various construction work environments (hard hats, personal floatation devices, safety glasses, respirators, etc.)
