Job summary

University of South Carolina in Columbia is seeking an Electrician II to maintain and repair campus-wide electrical systems. The role installs equipment, remodels services, and leads project work with supervision in the supervisor's absence.

The position requires a technical school credential and at least 3 years of related experience, plus a Journeyman Certification and a valid driver’s license. Schedule is Monday–Friday, 8:00am–4:30pm, with a flexible arrangement as needed.

Qualifications

• Requires technical training from a qualified school and 3+ years of related experience.
• Substitution possible with relevant certifications, training, or education.
• Journeyman Certification and driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and resolve complex electrical issues affecting campus buildings and distribution systems.
• Lead installation and modification of electrical infrastructure and services.
• Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and contractors on designs and code compliance.
• Serve as lead electrician on projects and maintenance activities.
• Oversee preventive maintenance and system monitoring initiatives.
• Assist in planning work, estimating materials/labor, and maintaining documentation.

Position Description Advertised Job Summary Under limited supervision, performs highly skilled electrical duties required to maintain and repair campus-wide electrical systems. Installs electrical equipment and remodels existing electrical services to support campus departments. Performs duties as a lead worker and assumes responsibilities of the supervisor in his absence.

Diagnose and resolve complex electrical issues affecting multiple buildings or distribution systems, including feeders, switchgear, and system interfaces. Identify root causes and implement long-term solutions.

Lead installation and modification of electrical infrastructure, including service upgrades, distribution equipment, and integration of new systems into existing campus networks.
