Job summary

University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC seeks an Energy Distribution Operations Manager to oversee the day-to-day management of the energy distribution steam crew and the high voltage shop. You will lead planning, scheduling, safety, and coordination with contractors to support campus utilities.

Responsibilities include developing preventive maintenance, capital renewal priorities with budget estimates, and ensuring compliance with campus energy standards while promoting a proactive safety

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a job-related field and 5+ years of related experience.
  • Driver’s license required.
  • Preferred: high school diploma with 10 years in energy/maintenance.
  • Supervisory experience in energy-related field or related area.

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership to and supervises the Energy Distribution teams (steam, chilled water, high voltage).
  • Plans and schedules work for reporting crews.
  • Coordinates crews and contractors for energy and infrastructure projects on campus.
  • Develops and manages preventive maintenance program and capital renewal priorities with budget estimates.
  • Ensures compliance with Energy Distribution standards and maintains safe building environments.

Responsible for the day-to-day management and operations of the energy distribution steam crew and high voltage shop.

Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience
  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in a job related field and 5 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience.
Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials

Driver’s license required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • High school diploma and 10 years professional experience in a specialized trades area; or in diversified building or vehicle maintenance, or construction activity.
  • Supervisory experience must be in an energy related field or business.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Thorough knowledge of application and practices for large central steam and chilled water distribution systems, and HVAC mechanical systems.
  • Working knowledge of high voltage systems and equipment, working knowledge of direct digital control (DDC) energy management systems.
  • Must have the ability to write and interpret complex technical plans and reports; to communicate verbally and in writing and communicate effectively with management and other professionals.
  • Demonstrated organizational, planning, and scheduling skills; Problem solving skills; Teambuilding skills and customer service skills.
  • Ability to multitask and manage multiple and complex duties concurrently.
  • Prioritize work activities in alignment with the department’s goals.
  • Ability to meet time restrictions work within specific resource limitations.
  • Assess training needs of employees with regards to energy best practices.
  • Ability to make fact-based decisions, to project a positive university image which encourages high morale and promotes confidence.
