Job summary

University of Houston is seeking an entry-level helper to support the Facilities Operations and Maintenance department. The role supports an experienced journey electrician in installing and repairing electrical wiring, fixtures, and equipment at the campus facilities.

The position requires a High School Diploma or GED and involves safety and security screening. No prior experience is required, and all University positions are security sensitive and subject to a criminal history check.

Qualifications

• Basic grammar, spelling, punctuation and simple math functions like percentages or ratios are expected.

Responsibilities

• Gathers tools and supplies to be used at work site, according to instructions.
• Measures, cuts and bends wire and conduit, using ruler and hand tools.
• Drills holes for wiring and pulls or pushes wiring through opening.
• Assists in lifting, positioning and fastening objects, such as wiring, conduit and motors.
• Performs minor electrical repairs, such as replacing fuses, light sockets, bulbs and switches.
• Maintains tools and equipment and keeps supplies and parts in order.
• May be assigned to serve on special task force during emergencies (floods, storms, hurricanes).
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Description:

Assists journey electrician in the installation and repair of electrical wiring, fixtures and equipment. Pursuant to the State of Texas Executive Order No. GA-48, this position researches, works on, or has access to critical infrastructure and requires the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the University infrastructure. This position requires personnel be routinely reviewed to determine whether or not criminal history or continuous connections for the government or political apparatus of a foreign adversary might prevent the employee from being able to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure.

• 1. Gathers tools and supplies to be used at work site, according to instructions.
