Job summary

The Illinois Department of Transportation seeks an Electrical Technician to perform inspection, testing, minor repairs and preventive maintenance on state-maintained traffic signals, lighting, and pumping systems. Hybrid in-office schedule with occasional travel; strong preference for applicants with two years of college in engineering tech or electrical-related field and related experience.

Starting salary is $4,159 per month, with a full range up to $7,187 monthly.

Qualifications

• Two years of college in civil/engineering technology or electrical-related field plus 30 months of engineering experience, or six years of electrical troubleshooting experience.
• Knowledge of installing, maintaining and repairing electronic, electrical and mechanical traffic control devices and systems.
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel districtwide.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, test, perform minor repairs and preventive maintenance on traffic signals, flashing beacons, highway lighting and pumping systems.
• Evaluate operational status of equipment and document emergency repairs and routine maintenance.
• Develop and implement traffic signal timing programs and coordinate with contractors.
