Job summary
GFT is seeking a Traffic Design Engineer for our Transportation Team in Schaumburg, IL, with a hybrid work model requiring regular office attendance. You will work on complex roadway projects, applying expertise in traffic operations, safety, signal systems, lighting, ITS, and MOT to deliver resilient transportation solutions.

Qualifications
- ABET-accredited BS in Civil Engineering.
- PE in Illinois or able to obtain within 2 years.
- 3–5 years of traffic analysis experience, knowledge of MUTCD and Highway Capacity Manual.
- Proficient with MicroStation CAD, Excel and Word.
- Experience with traffic control design: plans, specs and MOT/maintenance of traffic.
- Familiarity with traffic simulation software (Synchro, HCS, Sidra, VISSIM).
- Experience with IDOT/CDOT or local agencies preferred.
Responsibilities
- Conduct traffic analyses and studies (impact, operation, safety).
- Design/review signals, interconnects, railroad preemption, lighting, MOT plans; produce reports and drawings.
- Develop innovative ITS applications.
- Perform Intersection Design Studies.
- Collaborate with highway, bridge, stormwater and utility teams to deliver integrated solutions.
