Job summary

Sterling Steel Company in Sterling, IL is seeking an Elect Tech to maintain and repair electrical and electronic equipment across the plant. You will inspect systems, install new components, and perform preventative maintenance to keep production running at the lowest cost while upholding safety.

The role requires extensive hands-on experience in heavy manufacturing, crane and control systems knowledge, and the ability to read wiring diagrams.

Qualifications

• 5+ years maintenance electrician experience in heavy manufacturing.
• Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
• Knowledge of Crane signals.
• Proficiency with PLCs, analog circuits and PLC scaling.
• Experience with electrical troubleshooting and corrective maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Dismantle, clean, repair, replace and install electrical equipment.
• Make temporary or permanent repairs to main motors, generators and panels.
• Repair cranes and related control systems.
• Follow scheduled and emergency repair instructions for tasks.
• Inspect electrical equipment and power lines for wear and faults.
• Diagnose faults using testing equipment and judgment.
• Determine best repair method to minimize production downtime.
• Advise on necessary shutdowns to protect equipment.
• Calibrate electrical measuring equipment and instruments.
• Assist with project planning and startup activities.
• Interpret wiring diagrams to locate circuits and plan repairs.
