Job description

Job Title: Electrical Maintenance Technician Job Description

The Electrical Maintenance Technician performs both mechanical and electrical maintenance in a highly automated production facility. This role focuses on troubleshooting and repairing equipment such as baggers, fillers, packagers, conveyors, and associated components including photo eyes, sensors, hydraulics, and pneumatics. The technician spends most of the time performing preventive maintenance and addressing maintenance issues throughout the plant, while also diagnosing PLC-related problems and making minor code edits such as adding stops or new sensors.

Responsibilities
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical issues on production equipment including baggers, fillers, packagers, and conveyors.

  • Diagnose and resolve problems with photo eyes, sensors, proximity switches, motors, and other control devices.

  • Perform preventive maintenance (PMs) on plant equipment to minimize downtime and ensure reliable operation.

  • Work with highly automated equipment controlled by PLCs, primarily Allen-Bradley and Siemens, to identify when PLC programming may be contributing to equipment issues.

  • Troubleshoot PLC-related faults and, when needed, make minor edits such as adding stops, integrating new sensors, or similar small changes.

  • Open and safely troubleshoot electrical panels to locate and correct faults in wiring, components, and control circuits.

  • Regularly work with 3-phase 480V power systems and variable frequency drives (VFDs) to support and repair equipment.

  • Un-wire and re-wire machines as needed for repairs, modifications, or equipment changes.

  • Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems that support automated equipment operation.

  • Collaborate with teammates to discuss safety topics and participate in regular safety talks.

  • Document maintenance activities and communicate equipment status to relevant team members.

  • Support overall plant reliability by responding promptly to maintenance calls and assisting in root cause analysis of recurring issues.

Essential Skills
  • Proven electrical troubleshooting experience, including 3-phase 480V systems, AC/DC drives, photo eyes, and sensors.

  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems.

  • Ability to safely wire and rewire machines and equipment.

  • Hands-on experience with variable frequency drives (VFDs).

  • Ability to open, inspect, and troubleshoot electrical panels and control circuits.

  • Familiarity with PLC-controlled equipment and understanding of when PLC programming may be contributing to equipment issues.

  • Experience working with industrial maintenance, including maintenance technician, maintenance mechanic, or maintenance electrician responsibilities.

  • Competence in mechanical and electrical troubleshooting in an industrial environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Prior experience working in a food production or food processing environment.

  • A degree or formal education in industrial maintenance or a related technical field.

  • Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems in an industrial setting.

  • Exposure to PLC platforms such as Allen-Bradley and Siemens for troubleshooting and minor code edits.

  • Background in industrial maintenance roles involving drives, motors, and sensors.

  • Preference for candidates with direct industrial maintenance experience rather than facilities-only maintenance experience.
