The Plutonium Facilities Engineering Division (PFE-DO) and Confinement Ventilation Systems (PFE-CV) at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) are seeking an Electrical System Engineer. This position will be filled at Nuclear Facilities Engineer 1 or 2, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

This position will be filled at either Nuclear Facilities Engineer 1 or 2, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level. The successful candidate will serve as the subject matter expert for nuclear facility electrical engineering matters, including all aspects of electrical safety, power quality, power monitoring, and critical power reliability/redundancy. Responsibilities may include modifying buildings, developing new structures and equipment within and around the plutonium facility, and performing engineering studies such as short circuit, device coordination, equipment sizing, exterior lighting, fault current, arc flash for medium and low voltage equipment, demolition, installation, upgrades, and repairs. The role may also include qualifying as a Cognitive System Engineer (CSE) on one or more Vital Safety Systems (VSS) that support LANL Nuclear Facilities.
For Nuclear Facilities Engineer 2, you will work alongside junior and senior engineers and other peers in team settings to complete collaborative full-system design solutions through mentoring and leadership.

Demonstrated experience interfacing and coordinating with other engineering disciplines and the customer during the development of the design. Demonstrated ability to communicate well, both written and verbally.
Current registration as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) is highly desirable.
Education/Experience at lower level: Position requires a Bachelor59s Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university and a minimum of 3 years practical work experience to perform the responsibilities outlined above. Candidates that meet the degree requirement but do not meet the two-year experience requirement are encouraged to apply and may be considered for hire through an allowable variance.
Education/Experience at higher level: Position requires a Bachelor59s Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university and a minimum of 6 years practical work experience. An advanced engineering or technical degree is highly desirable.

Work in a noisy environment, near sources of ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, near machinery with moving parts, and irregular or overtime schedules.
This position will be physically located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. The commitment for this position is 1 year.

New-Employment Drug Test: Successful applicants must complete a new-employment drug test. The policy includes random testing and notes federal illegality of marijuana use, with termination for positive results.
