Job description

Position Summary

The Electrical Supervisor leads MRG's electrical crew, ensuring safe and reliable power, instrumentation, and controls across the site's leach pad reprocessing operations, process facilities, and general infrastructure. As the mill advances toward construction and commissioning, this role will take on growing responsibility for mill electrical systems, positioning the successful candidate to help build MRG's electrical program from the ground up alongside the broader Maintenance department.

This is a hands-on leadership role. The Electrical Supervisor balances supervisory and administrative responsibilities - scheduling, budgeting, training, and compliance documentation - with the technical judgment needed to troubleshoot electrical and control system issues, including during off-shift or emergency situations where downtime carries direct operational and cost consequences.

Key Responsibilities
Supervision & Workforce Management
  • Directly supervise, schedule, and coordinate the daily work of the electrical crew, balancing planned maintenance, breakdown response, and project work.
  • Assign work orders based on priority and criticality to operations; adjust staffing coverage for planned outages, shutdowns, and emergency call-outs.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, provide coaching and disciplinary input, and support hiring and onboarding of electrical personnel in coordination with HR and the Maintenance Manager.
  • Identify and address skill gaps within the electrical crew; develop or coordinate technical training (e.g., MCC troubleshooting, VFD programming, PLC basics, arc flash awareness).
  • Foster a strong safety culture within the electrical department, holding the crew accountable to lockout/tagout (LOTO), arc flash, and confined space protocols.
Electrical Systems Oversight - Process Facilities & Mill
  • Ensure reliable operation of electrical systems supporting current leach pad reprocessing operations, including motor control centers (MCCs), variable frequency drives (VFDs), switchgear, transformers, and distribution panels.
  • Oversee maintenance and troubleshooting of instrumentation and control systems (PLCs, SCADA/HMI, sensors, and process control loops) in coordination with the process/controls team.
  • Minimize unplanned electrical downtime through a structured preventive and predictive maintenance program (thermal imaging, insulation resistance testing, breaker maintenance).
  • As mill construction and commissioning progress, take on growing responsibility for mill electrical systems supporting crushing, grinding, and associated process circuits, including coordination with OEMs and engineering firms during capital projects.
Site Buildings & General Electrical Infrastructure
  • Maintain electrical systems for administrative buildings, warehouses, shops, mancamp facilities, and other site infrastructure, ensuring code compliance and operational reliability.
  • Oversee site power distribution, backup/emergency power systems (generators, UPS), and lighting systems, including outdoor/yard lighting critical to night-shift safety.
  • Manage electrical aspects of site utilities (water treatment, ventilation systems, fuel/lube facilities) as applicable to the site's infrastructure footprint.
Safety & Regulatory Compliance
  • Ensure all electrical work complies with MSHA regulations (30 CFR Parts 56/57 as applicable), NFPA 70E arc flash standards, and NEC requirements.
  • Maintain accurate documentation for electrical inspections, permits, arc flash studies, and equipment certifications; serve as primary point of contact during MSHA electrical inspections.
  • Ensure LOTO procedures are current, followed without exception, and reflect any equipment or circuit changes.
  • Investigate electrical incidents or near-misses, complete root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain the arc flash labeling program and ensure appropriate PPE is available, maintained, and used correctly by all electrical personnel.
Budget, Planning & Contractor Management
  • Develop and manage the electrical department's operating and capital budgets, including labor, parts inventory, contracted services, and planned capital replacements.
  • Track electrical maintenance costs against production targets, contributing to overall cost performance by minimizing unplanned downtime.
  • Manage relationships with electrical contractors, equipment vendors, and engineering firms for specialized work (high-voltage testing, arc flash studies, major installations).
  • Maintain critical spare parts inventory for key electrical components to minimize downtime risk.
  • Participate in shutdown/turnaround planning, ensuring electrical scope is scheduled, resourced, and executed safely and efficiently.
Qualifications
Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent; journeyman electrician license or equivalent certification.
  • Minimum 7-10 years of industrial electrical experience, including at least 3-5 years in a supervisory or lead role.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of MCCs, VFDs, medium-voltage switchgear, PLCs, and industrial control systems.
  • Working knowledge of MSHA regulations, NFPA 70E, and NEC code requirements.
  • Current MSHA Part 48 training, or ability to obtain within a defined onboarding period.
  • Proven ability to lead a crew, manage competing priorities, and make sound decisions under pressure, including during off-hours emergency response.
  • Ability to work at a remote mining operation.
Preferred
  • Associate's or bachelor's degree in electrical technology, engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience in mining, mineral processing, or a similarly heavy industrial environment; mill or plant electrical experience is a significant advantage.
  • Familiarity with SCADA systems and historian data for process performance troubleshooting.
  • Experience managing electrical capital projects or working alongside EPCM contractors.
  • Proficiency with maintenance management software (CMMS) and standard office/reporting tools.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to traverse rugged, uneven mine site terrain, including inclines and unpaved surfaces.
  • Exposure to outdoor conditions, including extreme heat, cold, and dust.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Comfortable wearing required PPE for extended periods, including arc-flash rated clothing, hearing and respiratory protection.
  • Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, and access equipment in tight or awkward spaces.
  • Availability for emergency call-outs outside standard shift hours, given the production-critical nature of site electrical systems.
Work Environment

This role splits time between the field, process facilities, mancamp, and site infrastructure, and administrative work such as scheduling, budgeting, and compliance documentation. The Electrical Supervisor works closely with the Maintenance Manager, the process/controls team, and EHS/Health & Safety.

The employee may be required to perform other related duties as assigned to meet ongoing operational needs.

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a post-offer background screening, medical exam, and drug/alcohol screening verifying the candidate’s ability to safely perform the essential functions of the position.
