Job summary

State Public Works Division in Nevada seeks a licensed electrical engineer to lead a diverse portfolio of capital improvement construction projects across the state. The role is based in Las Vegas, within the Department of Administration, providing professional electrical design and peer review for in-house and contracted design.

Qualifications

• Requires licensure as a professional electrical engineer. Within 12 months of appointment, Nevada licensure must be obtained for non-Nevada-licensed individuals.
• Minimum of three years of professional electrical engineering experience designing and/or managing major construction projects and capital improvement programs for building electrical systems.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all phases of capital improvement and construction projects from planning through completion.
• Develop project scopes, budgets, schedules, and technical criteria.
• Review and approve consultant electrical plans, specifications, cost estimates, and contract documents for code compliance.
• Provide limited electrical design services for in-house projects when needed.
• Negotiate, prepare, and administer contracts with architectural and engineering consultants.
• Coordinate project documents with regulatory and administrative agencies to ensure permitting and code compliance.
• Manage bidding activities, bid packages, advertisements, bid openings, and award recommendations.
• Administer construction contracts per applicable procurement rules and contract terms.
• Monitor project expenditures and maintain budgets; conduct site visits and evaluate construction quality and progress.
• Collaborate with contractors, regulatory officials, and project teams to resolve issues; prepare reports and updates for SPWD leadership.
• Maintain project records in accordance with state policies and audit requirements; ensure compliance with laws, codes, and accessibility standards.
• Perform other duties to support SPWD’s mission for safe, well-planned facilities.
