The Project Engineering Manager is responsible for leading the successful execution of multiple electrical engineering projects from initiation through completion. This role oversees scope, budget, and schedule while ensuring high-quality deliverables and strong client satisfaction. Ideal candidates will have a solid background in controls, instrumentation, and electrical systems, coupled with strong leadership and communication skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Leadership:
Lead all aspects of assigned engineering projects, including planning, execution, and closeout.
Develop comprehensive project schedules aligned with customer timelines and internal production capabilities.
Monitor scope, budget, and timeline to ensure all deliverables are met or exceeded.
Documentation & Submittals:
Interpret and implement project requirements based on contracts, technical documentation, and internal estimates.
Oversee preparation of submittals for field instrumentation, electrical panels, and control hardware.
Coordinate customer reviews and secure approvals within scheduled timeframes.
Technical Oversight:
Collaborate with engineering teams on HMI/PLC application development, system integration, and design reviews.
Serve as a technical liaison between internal teams, contractors, and clients.
Support software and hardware reviews, including graphical displays, ladder logic, and panel layouts.
Project Controls & Communication:
Facilitate regular project meetings with stakeholders to review progress, resolve issues, and maintain alignment.
Ensure proper quality control measures and customer demonstrations are completed as required.
Maintain project documentation, forecasts, and reporting for internal review (e.g., progress updates, labor/resource forecasts, WIP).
Financial Management:
Support project billing processes and track milestones to align with contract terms.
Work with finance teams to ensure timely invoicing and payment reconciliation.
Analyze performance against budget and support corrective action as needed.
Customer Engagement:
Act as primary point of contact for customer communication throughout project lifecycle and warranty period.
Proactively build client relationships and identify future business opportunities.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience)
5+ years of experience managing technical/engineering projects with a focus on controls, automation, or electrical systems
Strong understanding of industrial control systems, instrumentation, or electrical panel integration
Experience interpreting technical specifications and contract documentation
Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
Effective problem-solving, planning, and multitasking skills
Excellent verbal and written communication abilities
Comfortable managing multiple concurrent projects ranging from $10,000 to $5 million in scope
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:
Primarily office-based with occasional on-site work at customer or vendor facilities
Regular use of standard office equipment (computer, phone, etc.)
May involve site visits requiring use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, gloves, and safety glasses
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and communicate with technical teams
