Job description

Electrical Maintenance Technician, 3rd Shift

Join us at Ferrara as an Electrical Maintenance Technician, 3rd Shift at our Chicago manufacturing facility. Position Details

Location: Chicago (2945 W. 31st)
Shift: 10:00 p.m. to 6:15 a.m.

Role Overview

Under the supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor, you will provide technical support, hands-on execution, and direction to facilitate maintenance activities, including troubleshooting, major overhauls, and critical downtimes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Test performance of electromechanical assemblies (12v, 24v, 240v, 480v, AC/DC) using test instruments.
  • Read blueprints, schematics, diagrams, or technical orders to determine methods and sequences of assembly.
  • Troubleshoot and replace PLCs (input and output), HMIs, photo eyes, proximity switches, sensors, relays, motor controls.
  • Repair or calibrate assemblies or systems to meet operational specifications or tolerances.
  • Perform preventative electrical and mechanical maintenance and repairs.
  • Fabricate brackets and guards necessary for machine operation.
  • Install, set up, and troubleshoot A/C and D/C VFDs.
  • Diagnose causes of electrical and mechanical malfunctions and failures, performing preventative and corrective maintenance.
  • Recommend and initiate modifications and replacements of equipment that do not meet standards.
  • Collaborate with management to plan and execute preventive maintenance programs and schedule inspections and overhauls.
  • Repair and replace low/high pressure pumps, diaphragm, and piston pumps.
  • Install electrical and electronic parts and hardware, using soldering equipment and hand tools.
  • Inspect and measure parts to detect wear, misalignment, and replace worn or defective parts.
  • Ensure electrical systems, equipment, and components meet safety standards, identifying hazards and defects.
  • Follow NFPA 70E code, realign and adjust components, and repair broken parts using hand tools.
Skills & Qualifications
  • PLC troubleshooting and VFDs expertise.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic prints, schematics, and manuals.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Maintain high housekeeping standards and adhere to GMP and SSOPs.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing and industrial site safety protocols.
  • Ability to work overtime and weekends as needed.
Experience & Education

Minimum of 5 years in electrical or mechanical maintenance, or a combination of 3 years’ experience and education.

Compensation

$45.50 per hour
