Job description

This is skilled work in the construction, maintenance, and repair of high voltage, electrical, and mechanical equipment, machinery, appurtenances, and facilities at wastewater pumping stations and treatment plants.

Work involves considerable responsibility and knowledge of industrial electronics for performing a variety of electrical and maintenance repairs to ensure efficient and effective operation of pumping stations and treatment plants.

The incumbent must have considerable skill in a variety of electrical and mechanical operations and be able to use a wide range of bench, hand, machine, and testing tools requiring accuracy and precision. The ability to perform repairs on different metering devices and high voltage equipment is essential.

Assignments are made to specific jobs and generally include sketches, blueprints, oral or written instructions. Considerable independence is required in routine and complex assignments, although supervision is provided by the instrumentation/electrical chief and superintendent. Supervision may be exercised over any employee assisting with the work. Work is reviewed upon completion for proper performance and results.

This position requires independence and knowledge of high voltage electronic repairs.

Operates machinery, hand tools, and testers to repair defective parts of pumps, motors, valves, meters, chemical feeders, pump controls, and related mechanical and electrical recording devices at wastewater treatment plants and pump stations.

Occasionally operates light automotive equipment such as trucks, forklifts, front-end loaders, and tractors.

Performs skilled high and low voltage electrical work and repairs a wide variety of electrical and mechanical equipment.

Performs related work as required.

Proof of experience in high and low voltage electrical and mechanical repairs with machinery, equipment, and apparatus related to the area of assignment is required. Graduation from a standard high school or vocational school is desired, including or supplemented by approved coursework in shop practices or one of the electrical or mechanical trades.

Must obtain a Class I license in Wastewater Works within two years from the first eligible test date, as per Ohio Administrative Code for certification of operators.

Written Exam: The exam will be given on June 14, 2025 at the Choffin Career and Technical Center, 200 E. Wood Street, Youngstown, Ohio, starting at 10:00 a.m.. Calculators are allowed.

All applicants must show some form of photo identification (e.g., driver's license) at exam check-in.

Bonus Points: Additional points will be added to passing scores (70%) based on:

  • 20% - Military (DD-214 showing 180 days of active duty service and proof of honorable discharge)
  • 15% - Reserve Component (upon completion of entry-level training)
  • 15% - Proof of City Residency (submit four different proofs from one year ago and four current proofs)
  • 10% - Class II Waste Water License
  • 5% - Class I Waste Water License
