The E&I Technician provides electrical and instrumentation support to Plains assets through installation, calibration, maintenance, and repair of designated equipment and systems. They are responsible for performing scheduled and non-scheduled work tasks in the field at tank farms, pump stations, facilities, Control Centers, and office locations. They may receive direction from certified tradespeople such as Electricians, Heavy Duty Mechanics, Instrumentation Specialists, and others, working under some direct supervision.

This is a field-based role with frequent work in open environments with extremes of heat and cold, often near high voltage and/or chemicals, requiring safety accommodations such as protective clothing and equipment. This role is subject to callouts for work related to Plains field operations and emergency response.

Job Responsibilities
  • Perform all Junior E&I Technician responsibilities and work tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Work independently; determine own work priorities.
  • Conduct instrumentation/preventive maintenance on compressors, control devices, safety systems, switchgear, transformers, generators, and custody transfer equipment referencing vendor manuals and applicable codes.
  • Maintain calibration equipment and resolve abnormal conditions using vendor guidelines.
  • Service control valves, regulators, and maintain safety and process monitoring systems.
  • Complete meter inspections and ensure meter documentation compliance.
  • Inspect and maintain cathodic protection systems.
  • Service hydraulic and pneumatic valve actuators, troubleshoot, and resolve abnormal conditions.
  • Conduct safety checks, report abnormal conditions, and troubleshoot as needed.
  • Communicate problems and recommendations to the appropriate level.
  • Follow safety, regulatory, and operational policies.
  • Participate in emergency response, maintenance, construction projects, and special assignments.
  • Respond to breakdowns and emergency equipment failures, and initiate spill response when necessary.
  • Assist with preventive maintenance programs and participate in planning and commissioning activities.
  • Interact with and direct contractors as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent; completion of 2nd or 3rd year of a trades apprenticeship preferred.
  • Minimum two years of relevant work experience.
  • Ability to read, write, and perform basic math in English.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for team work.
  • Ability to read electrical drawings, maps, schematics, and manuals; perform load studies and calculations.
  • Knowledge of electrical codes, federal, state, and provincial regulations.
  • Familiarity with electrical theory, wiring, conduit installation, HVAC, instrumentation, high voltage systems, and safety procedures.
  • Experience with protective devices, troubleshooting industrial electrical systems, and working with PLCs, flow computers, UPS, and backup systems.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal guidance, prioritize tasks, and follow safe work practices.
  • Basic computer skills (MS Office).
  • Outstanding safety record and ability to complete safety and operator qualification training.
  • Physical ability to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions.
  • Legally authorized to work in the country of the job posting.
